Credentials/Years of Experience/ Training and Continuing Education:
Med Spas are still medical practices, it’s important to remember this. Your provider should have a medical license such as MD,DO, PA, NP, or RN. And if they are not an MD or DO, they need a Medical Director as supervisor in order to practice. Also, the longer an injector has been practicing, the better. But it’s not just about experience. In an industry that’s always evolving, training and continuing education is just as important, if not more important. These things cost a lot of money so good injectors are not going to be the cheapest.
Professionalism: Look for a provider who represents themselves as a medical professional. Yes, this industry is fun and trendy but serious complications can happen. Did you fill out a medical history form and did they go over it with you? Do they know what to do if there is a complication? What is their protocol for a vascular occlusion (a rare complication that can be severe)? Are they practicing aseptic techniques to prevent infections? Do they take the time to go over an overall treatment plan and explain the risks and benefits of each procedure. Most of the above things are probably not happening at a Botox party at someone’s house.
Appearance and Honesty: What does your injector look like? If your injector is overdone, you will be too. If you are asking for something that is not going to look good, will they tell you no and educate you?
Before and After Photos: Always ask to see before and after photos. Whether it’s in office, on social media, or their website, your injector should be able to provide photos of their work. This is where you can see if your values align with theirs.
Environment: Skincare and anti-aging is a journey. It is never really a one and done. Choose a place that makes you feel comfortable; a place that goes above and beyond to make your experience exceptional; a place that finds importance in getting to know who you are and your aesthetic goals. This industry is growing and you have so many options and you are the one who gets to choose.
